Japan Times profiled Seizo Fukumoto, an actor who specialized in ugly deaths in period samurai movies. “As a young actor, one of Fukumoto’s own role models was not a martial artist at all but Charlie Chaplin….’I thought the way he fell was great. He went down with a bang!’ says Fukumoto, slapping the table to illustrate. ‘Falling in action scenes was a matter of course for me, but seeing Chaplin, the king of comedy, falling with a bang like that really moved me. I thought I had to give it my all, the way he did.'”
