The Gutter’s own Carol Borden has some quick thoughts on Zach Clark’s The Becomers (USA, 2023).
“People of Earth, we have been warned repeatedly that the aliens are coming, that they covet our Earth, our resources and often our women. We have been warned that they are already among us, frequently filled with strange goo,and that they can take our form and snatch our bodies. We have also been warned that sometimes humans are the real threat to the world and the universe with our dreadful weapons, our wars, our unwillingness to live together, our lack of care for our planet, and our ungoverned and, perhaps, ungovernable passions. There are stories reflecting fears that the aliens will do to us what we have done to other people in the past. There are stories of alien invasions, both overt and covert. And there are stories of aliens living among us often trapped, alone and just trying to survive.
Writer/director Zach Clark’s The Becomers is in the tradition of bodysnatching aliens among us, but since the film opened this week, I will not offer too many specific plot elements. There is romance, comedy and horror, though.”
