Days of Liberation: Taxi zum Klo!

At Monstrous Industry, the Gutter’s own Carol Borden has some thoughts on Frank Ripploh’s groundbreaking autobiographical comedy, Taxi zum Klo / Taxi To The Toilet (Germany, 1980)! “What I think about watching Taxi zum Klo is…the possibilities of that time when sexual liberation—liberation in general—seemed not just possible, but on the way. The film’s also a reminder of a curtailed time when movies about gay men, their sex lives and relationships could be about just that. Taxi zum Klo still frightened the bourgeoisie with full frontal male nudity right in the beginning and unsimulated sex scenes between two or more men, but it’s not a film about tragic loss or, as marriage equality has become generally accepted, a cozy romance with a lot of nice sweaters.”
