Friend of the Gutter Beth Accomando visits the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art and considers the pros and cons of how it presents its art in an excellent piece with excellent photos. “I stood next to people exclaiming with glee at the sight of a Frazetta painting or Frank Miller’s high contrast ink work. Maybe they had only seen the image in a comic book or magazine and now could see some detail in the shadows that they never saw before. Or maybe they thrilled at seeing the hand of the artist in an original comic book panel with visible white out corrections and notes in the margins. Or maybe they were fascinated by seeing how Rockwell turned preliminary sketches into his paintings and by noticing what changes he deemed necessary for the final work.”
