At The Movie Jawn, film scholar and podcaster Karina Longworth talks about her upcoming series on You Must Remember This, “The Bisexuals.” “All I ever want, the primary thing I want for every series, is for people to watch the movies. It really is just sort of a way of me making films more interesting, I hope. But in addition to that, the kind of meta idea of the whole season is to talk about how progress, in terms of social stuff, particularly sexuality, is not linear. In some ways, it was easier for Libby [Holman] to express herself as a queer person in the late 1920s than it was for Montgomery Cliff to do so in the 1950s in Hollywood. I think sometimes we take a step forward, and then we take two steps back, and it just kind of keeps going in that way until you make incremental progress forward.”
